On November 3, 1981, 14-year-old Marcy Renee Conrad was murdered by her friend, Anthony Jacques Broussard. For two days afterward, he bragged about the killing and took classmates to see her body in the hills, four miles outside of town.

The callousness of the teenagers who didn’t report his crime, and the backlash against the teenagers who finally did, triggered a nationwide reflection on disaffected youth and inspired the 1986 Tim Hunter film, River’s Edge.
